NURSERY
From birth to four years old, St. Stephen's nursery is available
every Sunday morning to show God's love through gentle care.
ELEMENTARY SUNDAY SCHOOL
St. Stephen's Children's Sunday School program teaches children
from three (potty trained) to eleven the foundational stories
of the faith. Classes are grouped by age/grade. All children
are invited to attend and visitors are always welcome.
We gather in Room 106 at 9:30 on Sunday morning.
YOUTH (GRADE 6 THROUGH GRADE 12)
St. Stephen's has an active and vibrant youth program.
Middle school students meet for Sunday school in Room 202.
Sunday school for high school students is in the Youth Activity
Room (205). In addition, youth meet on Sunday nights from
5:00 PM to 6:30 PM for United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)
and participate in a variety of activities ranging from the
fun to the serious.
ADULT BIBLE CLASS
The Adult Bible Class welcomes visitors and new members. An
alternating team of teachers leads the class in on-going study of
God's word, offering varying individual points of view, teaching
styles, and insights. The group also enjoys social activities together,
and often meets outside the Sunday school hour for fun and fellowship.
The class meets in Room 101 at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday morning.
Come give it a try!
ASBURY STUDY GROUP
The Asbury class is an eclectic assortment of individuals from
diverse backgrounds with divergent opinions who are united by a common
love of Jesus. The class meets to study the Bible and discuss life
issues from a Biblical perspective. Our leader focuses the energetic
discussions and tries to keep everyone on track. The class opens
with coffee and prayer upstairs in Room 209 promptly at 9:30 a.m. - or
whenever the current president is able to call the room to order!
THE SEEKERS CLASS
The Seekers Class is a group of people who want to grow in their
personal relationship with the living Jesus. Our teachers lead us
in creating a faith-building environment where members can express
their thoughts, questions, and experiences. This class welcomes all
seekers who wish to begin or build upon a spiritual foundation in
the community of faith. Class meets in Room 203.
THE GRACE CLASS
This class uses biblically based material on current issues to
launch lively discussion. The class meets in Room 208 and welcomes
adults of all ages.
THE YAHWEH SISTERHOOD
The Yahweh Sisterhood consists of women ranging from their 20s to 60s
in all stages of their lives. Studies focus on issues of living as women
of faith. Please stop by and join us for a visit in Room 200 where
you will be among friends.
Our current study is Discussing the DaVinci Code. With the
release of Dan Brown's new book, the Yahweh Sisterhood class will take
a closer look at The DaVinci Code. This book/movie has
captivated millions with its dramatic claims about Christianity.
Do the novel and the movie unearth explosive facts, or are they
merely colorful but inaccurate depictions of ancient events?
We think this first-ever DVD-driven small group study guide will
stimulate animated discussion over one of today's hottest topics.
COVENANT CLASS
People of all ages attend the Covenant Class to explore how to live
in relationship with each other and with God. Our lessons come from
Christian study texts with emphasis on the Scriptures and how they
apply to our everyday lives. The class has a discussion format and is
facilitated by Carolyn Belk. We have lots of discussion and
everyone has an opportunity to express his opinion. Our current
study is on the Lord's Prayer.
Stop by room 201 during Sunday School for a visit. Linda's homemade
desserts, the excellent coffee, the lively discussion, and the friendly
class members will keep you coming every week. On the third Sunday of the
month, we meet for lunch at a local restaurant following the 11:00 a.m.
worship service.
THE JOURNEY
Twenty-somethings in college and careers, married and single, find
companionship and guidance (and food!) for the journey in this class.
Check out Facebook for our latest info. The class meets in Room 206.
Young Couples Bible Study - There are so many couples that come to church
and never get ministered to as a couple. The Young Couples ministry strives
to create a safe and authentic place where couples can be ministered to as
a couple. This Sunday School offers studies specific for marriage and
relationship development. Is your marriage perfect? Would you like to
know how other couples have dealt with their difficulties in marriage,
raising kids, loosing or changing jobs, money, or life in general? Would
you like to be in a community where the emotional and spiritual burdens
of sustaining a family can be shared in a safe place? Then you are invited!
OTHER CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Methodism 101 is offered on an occasional basis for those who wish to
know more about our United Methodist beliefs and practices at St. Stephen's.
This class is primarily (but not exclusively) for guests and new members.
Confirmation Class - Annual class offered to youth in Grade 6 and higher
who have not attended a confirmation class previously. The class
covers the basics of the Christian faith and United Methodist history
and beliefs. It is designed to prepare young people for their profession
of faith and full membership in the United Methodist Church.
Disciple Bible Study and Christian Believer - In-depth study of the
Bible and Christian beliefs in small group studies lasting 8 weeks
for the short studies and 32 weeks for the long courses. Classes
form in the Fall, continuing through the Spring, or in January,
continuing through the year with a break in the summer. The next class will
begin in October after an orientation on Wednesday,
September 30 at 7:00 p.m.
Jesus and the Gospels - It is a second generation Disciple Bible study.
It focus on the portraits of Jesus found in the four Gospels - Matthew,
Mark, Luke and John. Note the word "in" in the title signals that this
study takes an approach different from the familiar "life and teaching
of Jesus" approach of reading stories and accounts of what Jesus said
and did in order to draw conclusions about their meaning and about
who Jesus was. This study looks at the way each Gospel writer presents
events and teachings and at the picture of Jesus that emerges in each
of the Gospels.
Companions in Christ - A twenty-eight week, small-group journey
that focuses on deepening your relationship with God. Through
daily readings, reflections, and weekly meetings, you will be
guided in exploring prayer, scripture, vocation and spiritual
friendship as avenues to deepen your faith.
Special Interest Classes - These classes are offered occasionally
as members express an interest in an area of study. If you have
a special interest, tell us about it!
